Cat-A-Van Tour 2015: Texas

NEA Executive Committee members Kevin Gilbert and Maury Koffman joined TSTA President Noel Candelaria on the Cat-A-Van Reading Tour in Dallas. The Cat-A-Van pulled up with the Cat in the Hat to Freeman Elementary, a school filled with enthusiastic readers, and decorated from here to there and everywhere!

The tour continued at William A. Blair Elementary. Koffman and Gilbert added humor to their reading of "Green Eggs and Ham," which was a student favorite.

Events also included Candelaria leading the "Readers Oath," and the Cat in the Hat presenting the school libraries with a donation. The Texas schools received a special visit from NEA’s Cat-a-Van Reading Tour, which is designed to get kids excited about reading and provides more than $100,000 of reading inspiration to high-needs schools.

Houston - Beaumont

NEA Executive Committee members George Sheridan and Greg Johnson accompanied TSTA President Noel Candelaria on the final Cat-A-Van Reading Tour stops in the Lone Star State.

The tour made stops at Parkwood Elementary in Pasadena, TX, and Fehl-Price Elementary in Beaumont, TX. Johnson and Sheridan had all the students cheering "Bring out the cat!" as they lead the shows.

The Read Across America Cat-A-Van pulled up to Parkwood Elementary School  in Pasadena and found hundres of engaged readers and a wonderful school staff who encourages them to succeed. 

The president of the Deer Park Education Association was also on hand to provide book donations and goodies to the young readers, including a grant to keep their libraries filled with books and other reading inspiration.

When the Cat-a-Van rolled into Beaumont, the joy of reading shone in the smiles of students of Fehl-Price Elementary!

Along the reading route from Who-ville, NEA brought books, goodies and other give-aways totaling more than $100,000to children in need.

 The tour now leaves Texas and heads to Louisiana for the final two days.
