Science Activities & Projects

Selected Classroom Activities in physical sciences, life sciences, earth science, and math can be used at school or at home and come with student instructions and a facilitator guide. Two more physical science activities are rated beginner and intermediate. Factors other than grade play a role in determining the appropriate level, but for the average student

  • beginner is K-3,
  • intermediate is 5-8, and
  • advanced is 9-12;
  • grade 4 is on the cusp between beginner and intermediate.

Under physical sciences, for example, the activity called Turn Milk into Plastic! is rated advanced (9-12).

Science Fair Project Ideas is an online library of more than 1000 project ideas under the physical sciences, engineering, life sciences, earth and environmental science, behavioral and social sciences, and math and computer science. One beginner (K-3) idea under computer science is The Pixel Puzzle: Why Video Game Characters Look Better Today. In the activity, students draw the same character at two different resolutions to determine if increasing the number of pixels makes a video game character look better.
