Common Sense Media’s Media and Technology Resources for Educators provides K-12 curriculum and professional development resources. The site requires free registration.

The website has kid and teen guides for iPad and free classroom posters too.

Digital Literacy and Citizenship Classroom Curriculum lists scope & sequence and standards alignment and offers cross-curricular units for grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12. The curriculum covers eight categories:

  • Internet safety,
  • privacy & security,
  • relationships & communication,
  • cyberbullying,
  • digital footprint & reputation,
  • self-image & identity,
  • information literacy, and
  • creative credit & copyright.

Three units are available for K-2. Unit One includes five lessons in privacy, safety, searching, email, and crediting creative work. The lessons and supporting materials can be downloaded as PDFs and videos viewed online.

Three Curriculum Toolkits cover E-rate and CIPA, Cyberbullying, and Gender and Digital Life. Materials for administrators, teachers, and students can be downloaded.

Professional Development Resources features a self-paced tutorial for educators to train on the K-12 Digital Literacy and Citizenship curriculum. Training can be customized by grade level and topic area.

Webinars houses 17 archived 30-60-minute webinars.

The Connecting Families helps parents create media-competency. Materials are in English and Spanish and are in PDF format.
