Including physical activity in the classroom has been demonstrated to improve student test scores and behavior. Classroom Exercise Breaks For Elementary Students presents programs of light, moderate, and vigorous exercise for K-5 to develop flexibility, strength, and cardiovascular health. Each exercise set describes 4-6 activities to get bodies moving and hearts pumping in limited space. Each exercise can be completed in 2-3 minutes. No equipment is needed.

KidsHealth in the Classroom offers free health-related, cross-curricular lesson plans. Teacher Guides (PreK-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12) include questions, games, experiments, activities, handouts, and quizzes, aligned to national health education standards. For example, three teacher’s guides for grades 3-5 supply information on the human body, health problems, and personal health. One of these, The Human Body covers functions and processes (such as the importance of sleep), parts, and systems.

Videos show how to include daily exercise, and what to do when the weather turns bad and recess comes indoors. Separate tabs provide Sesame Street activities, movies (some in Spanish) and resources about how the body works, homework help, and special needs fact sheets.
