Wildlife Lesson Plans

Wildlife Lesson Plans K-5 units with one or more lessons aligned to Indiana Science, Math, and English Standards. Some units supply all or most of the required materials. Others require additional materials. Here are some examples:

  • Eco-llapse Lesson Plan ( PDF, 1 MB, 15 pgs.) Students discover how producers, primary consumers, and secondary consumers in an ecosystem depend on each other for survival by simulating an ecosystem with Jenga-style blocks. The lesson includes playing cards and spinner.
  • Animal Diversity and Tracking ( PDF, 1.4 MB, 10 pgs.) In four lessons, students recognize the diversity of animal life within an ecosystem, learn to identify animals by their tracks, and make casts of their tracks. This lesson can be adapted for different ecosystems and can be accomplished using different materials
  • Coloration Exploration ( PDF, 2.3 MB, 22 pgs.) Students identify and give examples of different coloration strategies and indicate how they affect an animal’s behavior and survival. Color images, blackline masters, and worksheets are supplied.
  • Ashes To Ashes: We All Grow Up ( PDF, 1.8 MB, 23 pgs.) In two lessons, students learn that ecosystems are constantly changing and what causes the changes. Teacher notes, worksheets and script and cards for Succession and Disturbance, a skit, are provided.
