Active Lesson Strategies  ( PDF, 238 KB, 3 pgs.) Review strategies for K-5 math, language arts, science, and social studies. Outlines nine strategies for active learning in the classroom and outdoors. Some outdoor activities can be modified for the classroom. For example, Exercise the Answer assigns different exercises to answers to multiple-choice questions. When enough students indicate by tapping their temples that they know the answer, they are given a signal to exercise.

Active Lesson Videos  Brief videos show some of the learning strategies in action. Follow the Leader, an active indoor recess game for K-5, is demonstrated in the limited space of a classroom. In an outdoor setting, Tag is used, in this instance, to practice addition and subtraction with first graders, but can be used with K-5 to practice many different skills.

Brain Boosters are designed to improve focus by providing short breaks from class work during the day. There are 23 categories of boosters, including those specifically for K-2, 3-5, holidays, back to school, and more.

Food Explorers Resources Teachers can download parts or the entire curriculum, which includes a facilitator’s guide, consent formas, pre- and post-surveys, and more.

Garden Lesson Plans provides garden planning and the science and math of growing things.

Making The Most Of Recess is a comprehensive list of active games for days weather demands indoor recess. Ideas For Active Indoor Recess  ( PDF, 217 KB, 3 pgs.) is a set of downloadable file cards.
