Bioenergy in the Classroom  is a resource of the Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy that provides K-12 science information, lesson plans, online activities, coloring and activity book, quiz, videos, webinars, and professional development.

Some highlights:

The Coloring and Activity Book  informs young students about bioenergy, alternative fuel sources, and renewable energy. PDF versions in English and Spanish are available. Bio Energize Me  (  PDF, 3.2 MB, 16 pgs.) includes coloring pages, vocabulary, and activities. Download and print without the solutions page.

Lesson Plans  can be browsed or searched and filtered by resource type, topic, grade, and energy literacy principle. The Sun and Its Energy (11 activities)  (K-4) introduce students to the basic concepts of solar energy. The 60-page PDF  includes teacher guide, Common Core, NGSS and state standards, vocabulary cards, student worksheets and more. Exploring Hydroelectricity (9 activities) activities (9-12) features inquiry-based activities exploring the scientific, economic, environmental, technological, and societal aspects of hydropower. A Teacher and Student Guide. The Students Guide URL is dead, but this is a working alternative.

One of the online activities is a game designed for students with a general background in high school biology or environmental science, Bioenergy Basics 101. Bioenergy Basics 101 Game | Department of Energy The game provides a link to additional background information to prepare for the game. The game is Jeopardy-like with six categories earning points from 100-500. The game could be used as an individual review or whole class review. Also provided are a game transcript and PowerPoint Presentation.
